Overview
Built for the CanSat Competition 2024, American Astronautical Society.
A CanSat packs a satellite's job into the volume of a soda can: survive launch, deploy at altitude, descend under control and send live telemetry to the ground. Our CanSat placed 3rd in Asia and 11th in the world at the 2024 CanSat Competition.
The CanSat Competition gives student teams a real mission profile. The probe rides a rocket to altitude, separates, descends under a controlled rate and reports what it measures the whole way down.
The mechanical structure was designed around the can's tight volume and mass limits and 3D printed in-house, so parts could be revised quickly between tests.
The team placed 3rd in Asia and 11th in the world. That result set the standard for the competition work that followed.
